Rotaform and Ledger: a bin rollout

About Rotaform Plastics

Rotaform Plastics is a reusable packaging supplier, including boxes, lockers, pallets and, for this situation, waste and recycling bins. For this situation that requires Ledger, in a set amount of time, Rotaform Plastics needs to deliver these bins and ensure they are properly set to reach their destination.

Initial Challenge

As part of supply chain management, these bins required quick records and visualisation of the progress tracked: a set of requests are made, sets of bins are brought out to record if they are present or manufactured correctly, with the right IDs and if they are assigned to the correct address, and they get sent off.

This process was recorded manually, resulting in slower record times through having to visually inspect each bin, tick them off at a time and also check that nothing got lost in the records. As well as that, it wouldn't be easy to check if the RFID tags, meant for detecting the bin for waste collection, were actually present in the relevant bin without scanning technology.

Ledger Implementation

The application of Ledger resulted in a Register and Deploy workflow, with these changes resulting in a more efficient and automated experience in recording bins:

• RFID Scanning - The RFID tags in bins that are used to detect them when placed along the road is incorporated into the record workflow, helping to ID the bin and identify if a bin is properly and functionally constructed.
• Live Sequential Event Monitoring - Multiple delivery lines can be monitored at once, live, along with their statuses and whether or not any bins failed to go through.
• Rapid Consecutive Records - Using a handheld scanner and with the bin already being stacked in lines, recording a bin's IDs immediately and automatically completes the record and readies for the next one in an order sequence.

This has resulted in, over July to September, much easier and more efficient inventory management with over 26,000 bins being recorded and sent to their destinations with a 98.4% success rate.
